Baseball Recap: St. John-Vianney Wins Going Away Against Southern Regional

St. John-Vianney gave up the first runs on Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Southern Regional Rams. That 11 run margin sets a new team best for the Lancers this season.

Nick Mirto made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

In other batting news, Mike McCormack was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That stolen base marked the first that he has snagged this season. Anthony Bavaro was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.

St. John-Vianney always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .559. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

St. John-Vianney now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Southern Regional, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. John-Vianney will head out to take on Cranford at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Southern Regional, they will venture away from home to challenge Atlantic County Institute of Tech at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
