Softball Game Preview: Nease Panthers vs. Bishop Snyder Cardinals

The Nease Panthers will take on the Bishop Snyder Cardinals at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Nease is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.

Nease fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Middleburg on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Broncos by a score of 4-3.

Sydney Davis spent all 8.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Alanna Doherty and Kristina Campbell did some serious damage despite the final result: Doherty went 1-for-4 with one home run and two runs, while Campbell went 1-for-3 with one home run and one stolen base. That home run marked the first that Doherty launched this season.

Meanwhile, Bishop Snyder fell victim to Fernandina Beach and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 2-0. The defeat continues a trend for the Cardinals in their meetings with the Pirates: they've now lost five in a row.

Nease's loss dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Bishop Snyder, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-6.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Nease has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Bishop Snyder struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Nease took their victory against Bishop Snyder in their previous matchup back in March of 2023 by a conclusive 20-2 score. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cardinals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
