One team took the elevator way up and another took it way down in the power rankings this week. Among the games was a one-point thriller between North Catholic and Central Valley.

Franklin Regional was the better team in every quarter against West Mifflin last week and consequently the better team overall. Franklin Regional had all the answers against West Mifflin, winning 28 - 6. One major factor in the victory was the play of senior Adam Rudzinski, who tossed the ball for 159 yards and two TDs. Thanks to its success, Franklin Regional cracked into the power rankings and now occupies the 23rd spot.
Can't Touch This
Thomas Jefferson's 49 - 14 win over Indiana last week had a lot to do with the leadership of senior Max Shaw. Shaw ran for 132 yards and also punched in four touchdowns. In fact, our algorithms singled out Shaw as one of the top players in the power rankings for the week.

It was a battle of top-notch squads when Penn Hills (13th in the MaxPreps state rankings) took on Mars (69th) last week. Penn Hills took its contest against Mars by a conclusive 36 - 15 score. The MaxPreps rankings were spot on as they projected Penn Hills as the clear winner.
Next Week's Big Game
If you are itching to watch a first-rate contest, no game is supposed to fit the bill better than the one between Fairmont Senior (4th in the MaxPreps state rankings) and University (31st). This will be the second home game in a row for Fairmont Senior. Given their high-scoring efforts against their previous opponents, we'll see how far they can run the score up this week.
