Hozho Academy came tearing into Thursday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Navajo Pine Warriors as they made off with a 16-1 win. The Wolves have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Warriors, too.
Mia Baca made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and four RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted over her last ten contests.
In other batting news, Lucia Edaakie was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Elisa Longhat also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Hozho Academy was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .773. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .588 or higher in five consecutive games.
Hozho Academy's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 20-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 18.7 runs over those games. As for Navajo Pine, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 3-16.
Hozho Academy will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Warriors: the pair will be back at it again later today.
