Mize has gone 8-2 against Puckett recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Bulldogs will be playing at home against the Wolves at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Mize is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They never let Bay Springs get on the board and left with a 14-0 win. Mize has beaten Bay Springs the last eight times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest Bay Springs has come to flipping the script.
Mize got a big performance out of Parker Himmel, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Himmel has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Graham Davis, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Mize always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Puckett got the win against West Lincoln on Saturday by a conclusive 11-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wolves.
Eli Rankin made a splash no matter where he played. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
In other batting news, Puckett let Matt Rankin and Truitte Carter run wild. Rankin went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double, while Carter went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Wilkes Carter was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Puckett pushed their record up to 18-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Mize, their victory bumped their record up to 20-8.
Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Mize has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .483. However, it's not like Puckett struggles in that department as they've averaged .445. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
