Basketball Recap: Marshall Academy Comes Up Short

After flying high against Factoryville Christian last Friday, Marshall Academy came back down to earth. The Marshall Academy Griffons had to suffer through a 93-43 loss at the hands of the Barry County Christian Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Griffons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Michigan basketball rankings (they are ranked 434th, while the Eagles are ranked 98th).

Despite the loss, Marshall Academy still got an impressive performance from Oscar Melendez, who posted nine points and eight boards. That's the most rebounds Melendez has posted since back in February of 2024. Jack Delaney also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Even though they lost, Marshall Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matchups.

Marshall Academy's loss dropped their record down to 5-2. As for Barry County Christian, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Marshall Academy will venture away from home to square off against Jackson Preparatory & Early College at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Barry County Christian, they will head out to face off against Wyoming HomeSchool at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Barry County Christian is facing Wyoming HomeSchool at the right time seeing as Wyoming HomeSchool is stuck on a four-game losing streak.
