East Webster (Maben, Miss.) had a comfortable lead entering the fourth quarter, but used 14 fourth quarter points to seal the 36-8 victory over
Strayhorn (Sarah, Miss.).
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Deangelo Liggins in the first quarter, the Wolverines led 15-8 at the half.
East Webster expanded its lead to 14 points entering the fourth quarter. EW's lone score in the quarter came on a Liggins touchdown run.
Jack Wilson and Liggins ran for a bunch of touchdowns for the Mustangs. Wilson scored three touchdowns on the ground and Liggins added two as well.
Strayhorn's lone touchdown came on a defensive touchdown in the second quarter.
The Maben school came into the game allowing 9.3 points per game. SHS's eight points were well below its season average of 25.6 per game. The Sarah school came in giving up 10.4 points per game this season. The Mustangs struggled against the Wolverines' offense, which entered the game scoring 24.5 points per game.
The victory was a step in the right direction for East Webster, which was coming off a 37-7 defeat at the hands of Eupora in its previous game. The loss comes after Strayhorn defeated Broad Street 16-12 last week. The loss snapped Strayhorn's 3-game winning streak.
