The Faith Christian Eagles suffered their biggest defeat yet this season on Saturday. They were outmatched by Clinton Central at home and fell 67-32. While losing is never fun, Faith Christian can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 218th, while Clinton Central is ranked 65th).
Despite the loss, Faith Christian saw an underclassman step up: Maya Layton scored 20 points along with five steals and four blocks. That was a full 62.5% of Faith Christian's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Hannah Bolton, who scored eight points.
Faith Christian struggled to work together and finished the game with only three assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Clinton Central racked up 22 assists.
Carly Davison continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Clinton Central, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 11 assists. Davison hasn't dropped below two steals for 13 straight games. Another player making a difference was Sara Parkison, who scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and five assists.
Faith Christian has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-10 record this season. As for Clinton Central, the victory (which was their 14th in a row) raised their record to 19-1.
Faith Christian will head out on the road to face off against West Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The timing is sure in West Central's favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home while Faith Christian has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road. Clinton Central will take on Tri-County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Tri-County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 last Thursday.
