South Pointe extended the longest winning streak in Charter 4A this week by beating Desert Hills, 38-0. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
South Pointe moved up to 142 from 169 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. South Pointe climbed the ranks as a result of a 38-0 win over Desert Hills.
Westwind Prep Academy's dynamic duo of Nick Galaviz and Jesus Vargas proved tough for Peoria Accelerated to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Galaviz threw for 164 yards and three touchdowns and Vargas had 123 yards receiving. Kalani Inez helped Westwind Prep Academy's passing attack out by catching two balls for 14 yards.
Quinn Garcia was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 13 carries, he ran for 63 yards as Kingman Academy topped Peoria Accelerated. Christian Adragna also contributed to the rushing game with 54 yards on the ground.
Westwind Prep Academy's Galaviz and Vargas have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Charter 4A in both passing and receiving yards. Galaviz has thrown for 594 yards this season, while Vargas, a 5-foot-10 receiver, has 24 catches for 389 yards. The Tigers' Garcia leads the league in rushing yards with 277.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when South Pointe takes on Peoria Accelerated. As it stands, South Pointe is in first, while Peoria Accelerated is in fourth.
South Pointe took down Desert Hills 38-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
