Basketball Recap: Lake Brantley Skates Past Horizon with Ease

Lake Brantley's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They blew past the Horizon Hawks, posting a 65-38 win. Given the Patriots' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while the Hawks are ranked 598th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Julian Vargas was nothing short of spectacular: he went 9 of 10 on his way to 23 points. Those 23 points gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Fermaint, who went 5 for 11 on his way to 11 points and five steals.

Lake Brantley was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Horizon only racked up four assists.

Bradley Webb and Zachary Hawk certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Webb posted 11 points and seven rebounds, while Hawk put up six points.

Lake Brantley is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points per game. As for Horizon, they are on a 16-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-13.

Lake Brantley didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 57-50 victory against Jesuit on the 4th. As for Horizon, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 64-51 loss against Bishop Moore on the 4th.
