Baseball Recap: Stark County Takes a Loss

After flying high against Bushnell-Prairie City on Tuesday, Stark County came back down to earth. The Rebels fell 8-5 to the Monmouth United Red Storm on Thursday. The Rebels were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Red Storm apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Wyatt Snider was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. He has become a key player for Stark County: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 3-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jason Knowles, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Stark County has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-8 record this season. That patch can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Monmouth United, their win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-3.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Stark County is set to square off against their familiar foe Annawan-Wethersfield at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Monmouth United will face off against rival Biggsville West Central at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.
