The Akron Rams lost against the Merino Rams back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Akron fell 35-24 to Merino. While losing is never fun, Akron can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 177th, while Merino is ranked 41st).
Despite the defeat, Akron had strong showings from Anderson Filla, who scored eight points along with three steals, and Caleb Poss, who scored six points along with 14 rebounds. Filla hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games.
Akron dropped their record down to 6-9 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Merino, their win bumped their record up to 12-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Akron will take on Wiggins at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Akron focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Friday. As for Merino, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Sedgwick County at 7:00 p.m. on February 3rd.
