Brito hasn't had much luck against Westminster Christian recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Brito Panthers will face off against the Westminster Christian Warriors at 3:30 p.m.
Brito's tournament run continued when they took on Mater Lakes Academy on Saturday. Brito lost 16-7 to Mater Lakes Academy. The loss was the Panthers' first of the season.
Brito got a good showing from Andres Anzola, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
At the plate, Noah Nevarez made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs.
Meanwhile, Westminster Christian beat St. Brendan 9-4 on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Sabres: they've now won six in a row.
Carlos Perez looked comfortable as he tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March of 2024.
On the hitting side, James Suarez was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gabriel Mejia, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4.
Westminster Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Brendan only posted a batting average of .300.
Westminster Christian's victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for Brito, their loss was their first of the season and also makes their record 2-1.
Brito couldn't quite finish off Westminster Christian when the teams last played back in February of 2024 and fell 7-5. Can Brito avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
