The Papillion-LaVista Monarchs managed to keep up with the Millard South Patriots until halftime on Saturday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Papillion-LaVista's tough 57-37 defeat to Millard South might stick with them for a while. Papillion-LaVista was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Millard South apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played last Saturday.
Several Monarchs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cedric Williams, who scored 12 points along with three steals. Williams also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Garin Maley, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds.
It was another big night for Bernie Anderson, who scored 15 points along with six steals for Millard South. Those six steals set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Isaac Jensen, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and four blocks.
Papillion-LaVista's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Millard South, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-7.
Papillion-LaVista will be playing in front of their home fans against Omaha North at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Omaha North's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three contests. Millard South and Creighton Prep will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 12th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Creighton Prep presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Millard South in Nebraska (Creighton Prep is ranked 34th, while Millard South is ranked 140th).
