The Federal Way Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the Enumclaw Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Federal Way has given up an average of 14.6 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
It was a Battle of the Birds when Federal Way took on Kentlake on Wednesday. The Eagles lost 16-6 to the Falcons. The Eagles have struggled against the Falcons recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost meeting.
Sosephina Sailiai was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Serena Sailiai, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Meanwhile, Enumclaw waltzed into their match on Wednesday with nine straight wins... but they left with ten. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Raiders an 18-0 shutout. The Hornets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.
Alyssa Harris made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over 4.2 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Enumclaw got a massive performance out of Kaylie Plyler, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those four hits gave Plyler a new career-high. Nadia Flaherty was another key player, going 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles.
Enumclaw kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 25 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 12 consecutive contests.
Enumclaw's win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Federal Way, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-8.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Federal Way hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Enumclaw struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.4 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Federal Way might still be hurting after the 20-9 loss they got from Enumclaw in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
