Baseball Game Preview: Haskell Haymakers vs. Warner Eagles

The Haskell Haymakers will venture away from home to square off against the Warner Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Haskell is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.

Haskell was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Mounds on Monday. Haskell's pitcher stepped up to hand Mounds an 11-0 shutout. The Haymakers haven't had any issues with the Golden Eagles recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Jaxon Drain was a standout: he scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He has become a key player for Haskell: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 1-5 otherwise. Jacob Yocham also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Haskell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mounds only posted an OBP of .375.

Meanwhile, Warner lost 13-3 to Panama on Tuesday.

Talon Longshore made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Peydon Siebert, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with one RBI.

Warner has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-5-1 record this season. The victory got Haskell back to even at 5-5.

Thursday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Haskell has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .538. However, it's not like Warner struggles in that department as they've averaged .511. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Haskell came out on top in a nail-biter against Warner in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 7-6. Does Haskell have another victory up their sleeve, or will Warner turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
