Geneseo is 9-1 against Alleman since March of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Maple Leafs will face off against the Pioneers at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Geneseo has three straight wins, Alleman has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Tuesday, Geneseo got the win against Quincy by a conclusive 12-1. Considering the Maple Leafs have won eight matchups by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Geneseo let Madisyn Buysse and Jaylee Brudos run wild. Buysse went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI, while Brudos went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most runs Buysse has posted over her last 13 games. Lillian Brown was another key player, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.
Geneseo hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least three batters in five consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Alleman fell victim to Sherrard and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They lost 6-0 to the Tigers.
Alleman saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Izzy Schneider, who went 2-for-3 with one double.
Geneseo pushed their record up to 15-6 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.7 runs over those games. As for Alleman, their loss dropped their record down to 5-13.
Alleman's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Geneseo has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Alleman, though, as they've been averaging 10.4 hits. Given Geneseo's sizable advantage in that area, the Pioneers will need to find a way to close that gap.
Geneseo took their victory against Alleman when the teams last played on April 1st by a conclusive 18-7 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Maple Leafs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
