Benson has enjoyed the comforts of home their last four games, but now they'll head out on the road. They will challenge the Morenci Wildcats at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Saturday, Benson didn't have too much trouble with Baboquivari at home as they won 60-43.
Benson can attribute much of their success to Jamey Darwin, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds, and Kaylei Taylor, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and ten rebounds. The game was Taylor's third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Rone, who scored two points along with ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Morenci scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They breezed by Santa Rita on the road to the tune of 57-23. Given Morenci's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 129th, while Santa Rita is ranked 268th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Elena Leonard and Tiara Jones were among the main playmakers for Morenci as the former scored 13 points along with four steals and the latter scored ten points along with nine rebounds. Leonard has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Another player making a difference was Mayeli Salazar, who scored 11 points.
Benson pushed their record up to 10-3 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.0 points per game. As for Morenci, their win bumped their record up to 4-5.
This contest is shaping up to be a blowout: Benson hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 54.2 points per game. It's a different story for Morenci, though, as they've been averaging only 36 points per game. The only thing between Benson and another offensive beatdown is Morenci. Will they be able to keep them contained?
Everything went Benson's way against Morenci in their previous matchup back in January as Benson made off with a 63-37 win. Does Benson have another victory up their sleeve, or will Morenci turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
