The University Bulldogs were the 67-59 winner over the Sterling Tigers when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. University fell 58-48 to Sterling on Thursday. University has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
University lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Andrew Cordova, who scored 14 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cordova has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Coehn Nitzel, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Sterling was led to victory by Ethan Thyne and Colin Linn. Thyne almost dropped a triple-double on 14 points, ten rebounds, and nine assists, while Linn scored 18 points along with six rebounds. That's the first time this season that Thyne posted eight or more assists. Wesley Knuppel was another key contributor, scoring six points along with eight rebounds.
University has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last nine matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season. As for Sterling, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-3.
University will be playing at home against Valley at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Valley has now lost eight straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 8. As for Sterling, they will head out on the road to square off against Resurrection Christian at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Resurrection Christian will be looking to keep their six-game home win streak alive.
