The Gulf Breeze Dolphins missed an extra point against the Navarre Raiders on Friday and it came back to haunt them. Gulf Breeze was just a hair shy of victory and fell 49-48 to Navarre. While losing is never fun, Gulf Breeze can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 233rd, while Navarre is ranked 91st).
Despite the loss, Gulf Breeze still got an impressive performance from Battle Alberson, who rushed for 100 yards and three touchdowns, and also threw for 261 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 11.3 yards per attempt. Bryson Rouillier was in the mix as well, providing Gulf Breeze with two touchdowns.
Leading Navarre to victory were Connor Mathews and Hunter Pfiester. Mathews rushed for 133 yards and three touchdowns, while Pfiester rushed for 144 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.0 yards per carry.
Gulf Breeze has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Navarre, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 7-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gulf Breeze will face off against West Florida at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully West Florida focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up four on Friday. As for Navarre, they will head out on the road to face off against Niceville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Niceville is on a four-game streak of home wins, Navarre a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the field.
