They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Leyton Warriors 45-42. The win was familiar territory for the Coyotes, who have now won three contests in a row.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Anselmo-Merna to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kayley Klein, who posted eight points and eight rebounds. Klein is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Rhianen Myers, who went 5-for-8 en route to 13 points and eight rebounds.
Leyton's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sydney Fortune, who dropped a double-double with 12 points and 11 boards. That's the most rebounds Fortune has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Zaili Benish, who had 11 points in addition to five assists and four steals.
Anselmo-Merna's victory bumped their record up to 20-5. As for Leyton, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 21-3.
Anselmo-Merna has already played their next game, a 57-33 defeat against Sacred Heart on the 6th. Leyton does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
