A feisty cat fight will be fought as Tomball Cougars face off against Tomball Memorial Wildcats at 6:15 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Tomball comes in on 14 and Tomball Memorial on four.
Tomball barely beat Klein Oak the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Cougars were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over the Panthers on Tuesday. Considering the Cougars have won 13 matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Regina Amaya spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on three hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Hadlee Faulkner was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 4-for-4. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February of 2024. Macey Frank was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.
Tomball always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Klein Oak only posted an OBP of .240.
Meanwhile, Tomball Memorial hadn't done well against Klein Collins recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 11-1 win. With that victory, the Wildcats brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
The team relied heavily on Lacey Matheson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and six RBI. Another player making a difference was Kamdyn Folsom, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Tomball's win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.1 runs on average over those games. As for Tomball Memorial, their win bumped their record up to 15-8-1.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Tomball hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .376. However, it's not like Tomball Memorial struggles in that department as they've averaged .324. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Tomball's way against Tomball Memorial when the teams last played back in March, as Tomball made off with a 12-3 victory. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
