The Owen Warhorses''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They took a 39-21 bruising from Avery County. Owen lost against Avery County in their previous head to head back in October of 2022, too, but the margin this time around was much wider than the 45-35 score last time.
Leading Avery County to victory were Oak Markland and Logan Wayne Brown. Markland picked up 96 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Brown rushed for 114 yards and three touchdowns.
Owen's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 1-8. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-1 Draughn and 7-2 Mountain Heritage (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 70.4% over those games). As for Avery County, their win bumped their record up to 4-5.
Owen will look to defend their home field on Friday against Madison at 7:30 p.m. As for Avery County, they will head out on the road to face off against Mitchell at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
