Having struggled with four defeats in a row, Cumberland County turned things around against Oneida on Tuesday. They blew past the Indians 11-2. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Jets' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Olivia Torrelli made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off ten hits. Those hits were her first of the season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-5.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emily Shelton, who scored four runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-3. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Marly Elliott, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-4.
Cumberland County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Oneida only posted an OBP of .226.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, White County made sure to put some runs up on the board against Livingston Academy on Tuesday. White County came out on top against Livingston Academy by a score of 13-9. The Warriors' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Kylie Norvell was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with one home run and three RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Howell, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.
Cumberland County's record is now 2-5. As for White County, their record is now 2-4.
White County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Cumberland County has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .497. It's a different story for White County, though, as they've only averaged .296. Will they be able to contain Cumberland County's hitters?
Cumberland County suffered a grim 16-4 defeat to White County in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can Cumberland County avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
