Lake Norman Charter hasn't had much luck against South Rowan recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Knights will venture away from home to square off against the Raiders at 5:30 p.m.
Carson hit Lake Norman Charter with a four-run fourth inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Knights fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 5-4. The Knights have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Abby Courtney was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. Lucy Courtney also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
South Rowan never got on the board in their matchup last Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Carson on Tuesday. They never let the Cougars get on the board and left with a 14-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Raiders, who have now won seven matchups by nine runs or more so far this season.
South Rowan also got a great performance from Remi Hagerty as she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over 4.2 innings pitched.
At the plate, Cressley Patterson and Kynlee Dextraze did most of the damage at the plate: Patterson got on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and three RBI, while Dextraze went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those four runs gave Patterson a new career-high. Lexie Ritchie was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with four runs.
South Rowan lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
South Rowan is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Lake Norman Charter, their loss dropped their record down to 6-14.
Lake Norman Charter suffered a grim 12-3 defeat to South Rowan when the teams last played back in March. Can the Knights avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
