The Covington Chargers will square off against the Gibson County Pioneers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Covington is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Covington lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Halls, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's matchup. The Chargers never let the Tigers get on the board and left with an 8-0 win on Thursday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Chargers as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
The result came thanks to Kinslee Hamm's shutout, as she gave up just five hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Madi Hamm, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Lyla Harrell, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and one double.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Covington kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Gibson County hadn't done well against Westview recently (they were 1-7-1 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Pioneers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over the Chargers. The game was the first time the Pioneers have beaten the Chargers on their field since April 28, 2017.
Haley Mingle was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Allmon, who went 1-for-3 with two runs.
Gibson County has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-8-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Covington, their win bumped their record up to 9-10-1.
Gibson County's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Covington hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .354. It's a different story for Gibson County, though, as they've only averaged .229. Will they be able to contain Covington's hitters?
