The Kewanee Boilermakers will head out on the road to challenge the Bureau Valley Storm at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
Last Thursday, Kewanee ended up a good deal behind Monmouth-Roseville and lost 66-52. While losing is never fun, Kewanee can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 475th, while Monmouth-Roseville is ranked 209th).
Meanwhile, even though Newman Central Catholic scored an imposing 55 points on Thursday, Bureau Valley still came out on top. Bureau Valley came out on top in a nail-biter against Newman Central Catholic and snuck past 58-55. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win Bureau Valley has posted yet this season.
Bureau Valley got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Kate Salisbury out in front who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kate Stoller, who scored ten points along with four steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Kewanee and nudges their season record down to 6-15. As for Bureau Valley, their win bumped their record up to 12-10.
Kewanee didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Bureau Valley when the teams last played back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 51-45 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Kewanee since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
