The Cotopaxi Pirates lost against the Sanford Mustangs back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Cotopaxi was dealt a 58-26 defeat at the hands of Sanford. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Cotopaxi has scored all season.
Despite the loss, Cotopaxi had strong showings from Terrance Evans, who scored 17 points along with seven rebounds and two steals, and Zach Winkler, who scored eight points. Evans is crushing the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season.
Sanford was led to victory by Trason Gartrell and Cash Caldon. Gartrell scored 12 points along with six assists and three steals, while Caldon scored 20 points along with six steals. Caldon is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Ben Sittler was another key contributor, scoring six points along with six assists.
Cotopaxi has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-7 record this season. As for Sanford, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 13-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cotopaxi is on the road again on Thursday and plays Manzanola at 5:00 p.m. on February 15th. Hopefully Cotopaxi focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Saturday. As for Sanford, they will head out on the road to take on Center at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Sanford is coming into the game with four straight victories on the road, so Center is out to stop a team with plenty of momentum.
