Olton has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge The New Deal Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Friday, everything came up roses for Olton at home against Sundown as the squad secured a 39-7 win. The result was nothing new for Olton, who have now won four matchups by 21 points or more so far this season.
Olton found their leader in underclassman Isaiah Ruiz, who rushed for 148 yards and four touchdowns. Ruiz was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 55 yards. Raymond Ramirez was another key contributor, rushing for 75 yards and a touchdown.
Meanwhile, New Deal had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 27.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They enjoyed a cozy 34-17 win over Floydada. New Deal pushed the score to 34-3 by the end of the third, a deficit Floydada cut but never quite recovered from.
Slade Martin continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 133 yards and four touchdowns. Martin is on a roll when it comes to solo tackles, as he's now made six or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dallas Sumner, who threw for 212 yards and a touchdown.
Olton's victory was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-1. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 1-6 Dimmitt and 2-6 Vega (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 24.1% over those games). As for New Deal, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Olton took a serious blow against New Deal in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, falling 48-17. Can Olton avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
