The Brookhaven Panthers won the last time they faced the Natchez Bulldogs, and things went their way on Friday too. Brookhaven came out on top against Natchez by a score of 57-50. Given Brookhaven's advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 34th, while Natchez is ranked 106th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Brookhaven's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Rontrell Williams, who scored 15 points. It was the first time this season that Williams scored 15 or more points. Jaylen Haliburton was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with four steals.
Brookhaven's victory bumped their record up to 21-6. As for Natchez, they have not been sharp recently as the team has lost six of their last seven contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-13 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brookhaven will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Laurel at 6:00 p.m. on February 17th. Laurel will roll in looking for their 13th straight victory, something Brookhaven surely won't give up without a fight. As for Natchez, they will head out on the road to take on Wayne County at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Natchez is coming into the matchup with seven straight defeats on the road, meaning Wayne County will have to defend against a team hungry for a win.
