The Aubrey Chaparrals will head out on the road to face off against the Farmersville Farmers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Aubrey had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 31.3 points), and they went ahead and made it five two weeks ago. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 49-7 win over Sanger. Given Aubrey's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 360th, while Sanger is ranked 927th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, everything went Farmersville's way against Sanger on Friday as Farmersville made off with a 30-7 victory. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Farmersville.
Farmersville's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Caden Norman, who threw for 201 yards and a touchdown on only 16 passes. Gerardo Reyes and his 137 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Farmersville's win.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Sanger to a paltry 232 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Farmersville's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out five times before it was all said and done. Sanger's QB won't forget Levi Smith anytime soon given Smith sacked him five times.
Their wins bumped Aubrey to 5-4 and Farmersville to 7-2.
Everything came up roses for Aubrey against Farmersville when the teams last played back in November of 2022 as the team secured a 59-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Aubrey since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
