The Cortez Colts posted their biggest victory yet this season on Friday. They breezed by Coronado at home to the tune of 47-17. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Cortez.
Despite the defeat, Coronado saw an underclassman step up: Aundrea Rodriguez scored two points along with nine rebounds and six steals. That's the first time this season that Rodriguez pulled down eight or more rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Coronado struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They are winless (0-3) when they just don't pass the ball.
Cortez's win ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-8. As for Coronado, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-14.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cortez and Combs will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 22nd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Combs is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak. As for Coronado, Coronado and Apache Junction will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Apache Junction is hoping to put an end to a nine-game streak of away losses.
