Southmoreland is 0-7 against the Red Raiders since January of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Southmoreland Scotties will head out on the road to square off against the Uniontown Red Raiders at 7:30 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Southmoreland pushed their score all the way to 63 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 83-63 walloping at the hands of Elizabeth Forward. Southmoreland has been going strong on the season, but this is now their second defeat in a row.
Meanwhile, Uniontown pushed their score all the way to 65 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 69-65 hit to the loss column at the hands of Belle Vernon. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Uniontown came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 21st, while the Leopards are ranked 150th).
Despite their defeat, Uniontown saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Jeremiah Hager, who went 6 for 10 from beyond the arc en route to 21 points and 1 assist, was perhaps the best of all. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hager has scored all season. Tori Grooms was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Southmoreland has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 14-5 record this season. As for Uniontown, their loss dropped their record down to 15-3.
Southmoreland came up short against the Red Raiders in their previous matchup last Monday, falling 66-54. Can Southmoreland avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
