After a string of seven wins, the Desert Christian Eagles's good fortune finally ran out on Wednesday. They were dealt a 47-16 defeat at the hands of St. David. Desert Christian has not had much luck with St. David recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Addison Jones, who scored two points along with five rebounds and four steals. Jones hasn't dropped below two steals for ten straight games. Another player making a difference was Emmy Welch, who scored four points.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Desert Christian struggled to work together and finished the game with only an assist. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
St. David had a senior duo take command as Mayla Trejo scored 16 points along with eight rebounds and eight steals and Anissa Jacquez dropped a double-double on 11 points and 17 rebounds. Jacquez is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last 20 games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Emelynn Jacquez, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Desert Christian's loss dropped their record down to 14-8. As for St. David, they pushed their record up to 20-1 with that win, which was their sixth straight on the road.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Desert Christian will take on San Manuel at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for St. David, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Pima at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Pima is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
