The biggest upset of the week belonged to Lake Station Edison, who defeated 264th ranked Calumet, 28-20.
Whiting extended the longest winning streak in Greater South Shore this week by beating Hammond Bishop Noll, 42-26. The victory was the fifth in a row for the Oilers.
Nick Thrasher put up the best numbers in passing as the Warriors lost to Whiting. He finished with 11 completions for 191 yards and 2 touchdowns. Thrasher's favorite target this week was Vernard Whitfield, who caught 5 passes for 84 yards.
Tyler Richardson was the best receiver in the league this week as North Newton lost to River Forest. Richardson racked up 7 receptions for 95 yards. Schuyler Gargano helped North Newton's passing attack out by catching 3 balls for 60 yards.
He was 11-29 with 2 interceptions.
Ethan Young was a beast in the backfield as Jeff Cain's team topped Hammond Bishop Noll.
Young was the best running back in the league this week. He ran for 221 yards on 31 carries as the Oilers fell to the Ingots.
North Newton's Jono Bigger and Gargano have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Greater South Shore in both passing and receiving yards. Bigger has thrown for 1,464 yards this season, while Gargano, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 15 catches for 425 yards. Young from Whiting leads the league in rushing with 625 yards.
As it stands, the Warriors are in fourth, while Michael Juscik's team is in third.
There should be lots of points scored when the Oilers and Aaron Sauter's team face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, Whiting comes in having scored 173 this season, while the Spartans have scored 129. The Oilers scored 42 points last week as they topped the Warriors.
South Central made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 11,547 from 12,616. The improvement came about via a 33-7 victory over Wheeler last week.
