The Mt. Eden Monarchs suffered their biggest loss since December 16, 2023 on Saturday. Their rough 61-39 defeat to Ukiah might stick with them for a while. While losing is never fun, Mt. Eden can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 598th, while Ukiah is ranked 189th).
Omaurie Phillips-Porter continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Ukiah, scoring 23 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Phillips-Porter has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Tony Zacarias was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds.
Mt. Eden's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-12. As for Ukiah, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mt. Eden will take on Hayward at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hayward has been dominant on offense recently, as they've racked up an incredible 180 points over their last three matches. As for Ukiah, they will stay at home for another game and welcome St. Vincent de Paul at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. St. Vincent de Paul is looking to tack on another W to their eight-game streak on the road.
