Cienega and Buena are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. Cienega will square off against Buena at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Cienega is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.
Cienega took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Catalina Foothills, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Cienega had just enough and edged out Catalina Foothills 2-1. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bobcats.
ZAK VASQUEZ spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits.
At the plate, Cienega's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was JAMES LINZMEYER, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Buena). They put the hurt on Sunnyside with a sharp 14-6 win on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Colts needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.
Angel Olivarez was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Austin Cushman, who went 3-for-5 with two triples and three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. Vicente Haros was another key player, scoring a run.
Buena always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Buena's record now sits at 8-5. As for Cienega, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Cienega couldn't quite get it done against Buena when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 10-7. Can Cienega avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
