Video: Top 10 Games of the Week
St. John Bosco versus DeMatha was one of four games this week pitting two Top 25 teams.
Sure, the nation's third-ranked team possesses the nation's top-rated quarterback in DJ Uiagalelei
, but the Braves showed off a lot more in a 35-7 opening night home win over 21st-ranked DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.)
Uiagalelei started slowly, got hot after the second quarter and finished with 17 completions in 37 attempts for 322 yards and two touchdowns.
The 6-foot-5, 245-pound Clemson commit fired touchdown passes to Beaux Collins
(7 yards) and Kris Hutson
(56 yards), sophomore running back Jabari Bates
added TD runs of 50 and 2 yards and Michael Hayes
opened the score with a 2-yard TD run.
After Hayes' touchdown, DeMatha completed a fourth-down 33-yard touchdown pass from Malakai Anthony
to Marshawn Lloyd
to tie the game at 7-7 early in the second quarter.
But from there, the Braves scored 28 unanswered points and got great defense, especially up front. DeMatha could never get its running game into gear, so it couldn't control the ball or clock.
Meanwhile Bosco (495 total yards) got great run blocking from Drake Metcalf
and defensive work by Eugene Nicholas
and the entire secondary, which limited DeMatha to just five completions in 19 attempts.
DeMatha hopes to rebound next week at home in a game against Imhotep Charter (Philadelphia), while the Braves travel to Don Bosco Prep.
