Softball Recap: University Prep Snags Ninth Victory in Last Ten Games

University Prep won against Big Bear on Tuesday with seven runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Jaguars blew past the Bears 7-1. Considering the Jaguars have won 12 contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Breezy (Briseis) Vargas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Paityn Zimmerman, who fired off two home runs and four RBI while getting on base in all four of her plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Juliette Torres, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

University Prep has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.6 runs over those games. As for Big Bear, they have been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-11-1 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. University Prep will face off against Adelanto at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Big Bear, they will square off against Southlands Christian at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
