Gadsden's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Steven Herrera threw for 161 and 1 touchdown and Daniel Contreras had 74 yards receiving. On the ground Ramon Martinez chipped in 157 yards. Steven Figueroa helped Gadsden's passing attack out by catching 1 ball for 30 yards.
Martinez was the best running back in 5A District 3 this week. He ran for 157 yards on 24 carries as the Panthers defeated Alamogordo. Teammate Frank Jauregui added to the ground attack by rushing for 132 yards.
Gadsden's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Panthers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Herrera has thrown for 955 yards and 7 touchdowns this season, while Contreras has 35 catches for 343 yards.
Two of the top units in the league will face off this week when Gadsden takes on Las Cruces. Roy gerela's team's offense has scored 157 points this season, good for No. 1 in the league, while the BULLDAWGS have allowed only 59 on the year.
The Panthers are in third place, while Las Cruces is in first place.
Gadsden made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,509 from 8,614. The improvement was the result of a 27-7 victory over the Tigers last week.
