Maya Guzman was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and 12 unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
Guzman wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Arizona Navarro, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. That run was Navarro's first of the season.
As for Big Valley Christian, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-14-1. That nine-run margin sets a new team best for them this season.
On Big Valley Christian's side, Madyx Mitchell spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 15 Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Karis Thiessen, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kylie Reynolds, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.
Coming up, Riverbank will take on Calaveras at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Red Hawks' pitching crew has only allowed 2.3 runs per game this season, so the Bruins' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Big Valley Christian, they will be playing at home against Bret Harte at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
