The Appalachian Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Southeastern Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Appalachian's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 21-16 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cedar Bluff.
Despite the loss, Appalachian saw an underclassman step up: Braden Gilliland rushed for 85 yards and two touchdowns. Gilliland was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 50 yards.
Even if they lost, Appalachian's defense sure didn't make it easy: Cedar Bluff's QB was sacked four times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Mason Gore and Jaysen Tolbert who racked up four sacks between them.
Meanwhile, Southeastern took a serious blow against Pennington on Friday, falling 42-12. It was the first time this season that Southeastern let down their fans at home.
Appalachian now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Southeastern, their loss dropped their record down to 5-3.
Appalachian was dealt a bruising 39-7 defeat at the hands of Southeastern in their previous meeting back in October of 2021. Thankfully for Appalachian, Ben Hall (who picked up 134 receiving yards and two touchdowns) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result?
