Bridgeport is 2-8 against Bellaire since February of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Bridgeport Bulldogs will head out on the road to challenge the Bellaire Big Reds at 7:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Bridgeport struggled with assists on Tuesday (Caldwell had 18 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Bridgeport was beaten by Caldwell 74-27. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Bridgeport has scored all season.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Coen Brinker, who scored seven points. Avery Jackson was another key contributor, scoring four points.
Meanwhile, Bellaire's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their tenth straight loss. They were dealt a 67-40 loss at the hands of Shenandoah.
The losing side was boosted by Mac Pettigrew, who scored 19 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. He hasn't dropped below 17 points for 13 straight games.
Bellaire struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
This is the second loss in a row for Bridgeport and nudges their season record down to 11-9. As for Bellaire, their defeat was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-15.
Friday's match will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Jaleel Vincent and Pettigrew. Vincent has been dynamite this season: he has averaged 18.8 points, 2.8 steals, and 2.2 assists. For his part, Pettigrew has averaged 24.8 points, 3.7 steals, and 3.5 assists.
Bridgeport was taken down by Bellaire 94-54 when the teams last played back in January of 2022. Can Bridgeport avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
