Football Recap: Friday's Victory Is Wesleyan's Fourth in Last Five Outings

If Landmark Christian wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Wesleyan, they should've done a better job of containing Maddox Gartland. The Wolves came out on top against the War Eagles by a score of 28-21 on Friday thanks in part to Gartland, who rushed for 209 yards and two TDs while picking up 7.2 yards per carry. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 100.5 rushing yards per game.

Defeat or not, Landmark Christian got some senior leadership from Jo'Van Freeney(Ath) and Skylar Hamilton. Freeney(Ath) picked up 180 receiving yards and three touchdowns, while Hamilton threw for 275 yards and three TDs. Those 180 receiving yards set a new season-high mark for Freeney(Ath).

Wesleyan has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 32.0 points over those games. As for Landmark Christian, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 8-2.

Wesleyan and Landmark Christian will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next matchups. The next time the Wolves see the field they'll take on Providence Christian Academy at 7:00 p.m. on the 14th. As for Landmark Christian, their break will end when they face Mount Pisgah Christian at 7:00 p.m. on the 14th.
