Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for West Ottawa

While West Ottawa's win against East Kentwood wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Panthers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Falcons on Wednesday. Winning may never get old, but the Panthers sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Braylon Cates made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abel Anaya, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Trevyn Bethke, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

West Ottawa hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive contests.

West Ottawa's record now sits at 18-9. As for East Kentwood, they are on an eight-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-19.

Coming up, West Ottawa will face off against Portage Central at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for East Kentwood, they will head out on the road to challenge Union at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.
