The Lewis County Minutemen will challenge the Fairmont Senior Polar Bears at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Lewis County has struggled recently with six losses in a row, while Fairmont Senior will arrive with four straight wins.
Lewis County is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They fell 6-3 to Philip Barbour on Thursday.
Lewis County saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryder Aman, who went 1-for-4 with one home run.
Meanwhile, Fairmont Senior got themselves on the board against Charleston Catholic on Wednesday, but Charleston Catholic never followed suit. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Irish.
Logan Canfield was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Canfield was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cole Sammons, who scored three runs while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Brayden Gorby, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI.
Fairmont Senior was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .391. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive matches.
Fairmont Senior's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Lewis County, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Lewis County hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Fairmont Senior struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
