Hoggard has gone a perfect 10-0 against Ashley recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Vikings will take on the Screaming Eagle at 6:00 p.m. Hoggard is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Hoggard proved they can win big on Friday (they won by eight) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They never let North Brunswick get on the board and left with a 2-0 victory.
Not much got past Sydney Perry, who gave up just a hit and racked up 12 Ks to keep North Brunswick off the board.
At the plate, Hoggard saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Chloe Gallagher, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Meanwhile, Ashley hadn't done well against Lumberton recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Screaming Eagle had just enough and edged out the Pirates 3-2.
Saylor Cross spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on six hits.
Hoggard has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Ashley, their victory bumped their record up to 5-15.
Ashley's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Friday. Hoggard has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.4 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Ashley, though, as they've been averaging only 2.6 strikeouts. Will Hoggard keep running through batters, or will the Screaming Eagle buck the trend?
Hoggard skirted past Ashley 2-0 when the teams last played back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
