The Western Plains Bobcats were the 36-33 winner over the Wheatland-Grinnell Thunderhawks when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Western Plains fell to Wheatland-Grinnell 46-40. Western Plains has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Leading Wheatland-Grinnell to victory were Spencer Beckman and Daniel Mason. Beckman scored 16 points along with three steals, while Mason dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. It was the first time this season that Beckman scored 15 or more points.
Western Plains dropped their record down to 2-5 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.7 points per game. As for Wheatland-Grinnell, their win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 2-12.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Western Plains will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Deerfield on February 15th. As for Wheatland-Grinnell, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Golden Plains at 12:30 p.m. on February 3rd. Hopefully Wheatland-Grinnell focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Friday.
