Refugio is 8-2 against Ganado since October of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Bobcats will face off against the Indians at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Refugio is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Everything went their way against Rosebud-Lott as they made off with a 42-21 victory. The Bobcats' win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
The match pitted two dominant signal callers against one another in Ray Lewis and Pryce Rabroker. Lewis had a great game and rushed for 110 yards and two TDs on only nine carries. Meanwhile, Rabroker did his best for the losing side, throwing for 211 yards and three touchdowns, while also rushing for 35 yards.
Refugio didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Matthew Perez and Mikel Brown. Another thorn in Rosebud-Lott's side was Jason Delossantos, who forced two fumbles and made ten total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Ganado made easy work of Thorndale on Friday and carried off a 35-14 victory. Given the Indians' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 112th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 441st) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ganado found their leader in sophomore Landyn Arriaga, who rushed for 122 yards and a pair of scores on only ten carries, and also threw for 148 yards and one TD. Those 122 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Arriaga.
Ganado was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 252 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 252 rushing yards in five consecutive games.
Ganado's win bumped their record up to 11-1. As for Refugio, their victory bumped their record up to 11-0.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Refugio has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 358.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Ganado struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 236.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Refugio couldn't quite get it done against Ganado in their previous meeting back in November of 2024 as they fell 14-6. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Indians' Logan Bures, who rushed for 182 yards and one touchdown while picking up 8.3 yards per carry. Now that the Bobcats know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
