Point Pleasant hasn't had much luck against Spring Valley recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Big Blacks will take on the Timberwolves at 7:00 p.m. Point Pleasant's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Spring Valley's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Point Pleasant barely beat Wayne the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Big Blacks were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Pioneers on Wednesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Big Blacks needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.
Carrsen Lambert was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Braxton Bauer also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Point Pleasant always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .515. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wayne only posted an OBP of .320.
Meanwhile, Spring Valley faced Herbert Hoover in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Timberwolves' pitcher stepped up to hand the Huskies a 4-0 shutout. Winning may never get old, but the Timberwolves sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Not much got past Jonah Harrold, who gave up just six hits and racked up nine Ks to keep Herbert Hoover off the board. Harrold has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Spring Valley's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Brody Spencer, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Spencer is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
Point Pleasant's record is now 15-10. As for Spring Valley, their record now sits at 19-8.
